When and Where do Ponteland Archers shoot?
The home of Ponteland Archers is Ponteland Leisure Centre for both indoor
and outdoor seasons. During the outdoor season (Spring/Summer) we shoot
three times a week. Sunday is the club designated Target Day where we
shoot a GNAS recognized round. The field is also available on Tuesday
and Thursday evenings for practice. During the winter we shoot on Sunday
evenings from 4.00 - 7pm in the Leisure Centre Hall.
I. Do you run beginner's sessions?
We certainly do! Beginner's courses take place on Tuesday evenings and
consist of 4 sessions at a cost of £15 per person. A junior under
14 must have a parent joining and shooting at the same time. For
2008 we will be running three
courses starting in May, June and July.
Spaces on the beginner's courses are, unfortunately, limited and we require
notice of your interest in participating. To download and save an application form for a
beginner's course please right click the link below, and press 'save target
as', (or 'save link as') then select save to disk. All courses
are now full..

After the beginner's course you may wish to join the club and to help
you progress to the longer distances we have a 'progression plan' for you
to follow. A medal is awarded on completion.
Click on plan to see the distances to be
shot and the scores achieved.
If I wish to join the club, how
much will it cost me?
The fees are divided into 3 sections. The subscription is £48 for
the year 2007-2008 and this includes membership of Ponteland Archers
£11, membership of the Grand National
Archery Association (GNAS) £32, the region (NCAS)£3.50, and the county (DNAA)£1.50.
In the
winter we shoot indoors for 20 sessions and have to pay to hire the hall. The total cost works out at about £2.70 per week. Junior membership
for the club is
half the adult rate. The club welcomes archers
shooting different types of bow and we have archers regularly
shooting Recurve (Olympic) bows, Compound bows, Longbows and other
traditional bows.
Does the club hold any special events during
the year?
We usually run three competitions during the year. These are the
Ponteland Vegas
held during January as part of the indoor season. In June
there is a special tournament which
takes place in the beautiful
surroundings of Belsay
Castle. This competition is for longbows only and has been a two day
competition for the last few years, with places much sought
after. Our outdoor open
competition for 2007 was held in August and celebrated Ponteland
Archer's 40 years as a club and the life of its founder Tony Griffin.
| Have-a-go at archery. Ponteland
Archers run a couple of sessions a year where people can try
shooting with guidance from club members. A small charge is
made for this and it helps us to keep the club subscription low. The Have-a-go at Belsay has been very popular in previous years
and in 2007 we held the have-a-go on the second day of our
Longbow Tournament, Sunday 24th
June.

We also assist the Bowmen of Backworth with a have-a-go at
Bellingham show, and occasionally run other special have-a-go sessions.
