The First Griffin Memorial Tournament took place at Ponteland Leisure Centre on Sunday 12th August 2007.  It is the 40th anniversary of the founding of Ponteland Archers by Tony Griffin. Tony died a couple of years ago and we wished to celebrate his life as well as our 40 years.

After a damp start, the day brightened up with a brisk wind in the afternoon, conditions which reduced the Western Round to a National.  Our Lady Paramount was Tony Griffin's daughter Frances who donated a special trophy for the Griffin round, a model of Tenniel's griffin from 'Alice in Wonderland', which was awarded to the archer nearest the median score.  A great big thank you to Frances who traveled up from Bedford to be with us.  Also to Steve Richardson, the judge, and everyone who made this a most enjoyable day.  We finished off the day with sherry (or orange juice) and a delicious celebration cake.
